THE AQC VIBE GUIDE
Our Values & Safety: The AQC Vibe Guide
Welcome to the sanctuary! AQueerCamp (AQC) is a space of rest, joy, and safety for everyone; from our toddlers to our elders. To keep this magic sparkly, every camper commits to being a "cool, responsible human." By joining us at Ray’s Cottages, Algonquin Park, and/or Sparrow Lake for our 2026 season, you agree to uphold the following Social Contract (to be signed upon your booking confirmation!)
1. The "And" (Safety & Respect)
We want you to have the best time, and we need you to stay safe to tell the story. We have a zero-tolerance policy for behaviour that endangers the collective.
* Water & Woods: Never enter the water or wander deep into the woods alone. The Buddy System isn’t just for kids; it’s how we look out for one another.
* Sobriety & Safety: Under no circumstances are campers permitted to swim, boat, or drive while intoxicated. If you are on the water or in a vehicle during camp, you must be clear-headed.
* Mindful Consumption: AQC is a multi-generational space. If you choose to drink, do so responsibly. If your behaviour becomes disruptive or impacts the "vibe," our Safety Team will ask you to retreat to your cabin to rest. If you wouldn't do it in front of a curious toddler or your favorite auntie, save it for a private space.
2. Rest is Resistance (Quiet Hours)
Sound travels fast over water! To ensure everyone, from the early-bird hikers to the late-night dancers, gets the restoration they need, we observe communal quiet hours (varied by camp).
Note: You don't have to go to sleep, but voices must drop and amplified music must be turned off.
3. Digital Safety & Photo Consent
We want to capture the magic without compromising anyone’s safety or privacy.
* The "Ask First" Rule: Always ask for verbal consent before taking a photo or video that includes other people's faces (including the background of your selfies!).
* The Wristband System: We use a colour-coded system. If you see someone wearing a Red Wristband, it means "No Photos, Please." Respect the band.
* Social Media: Before tagging someone or posting a group shot, check in with them. Not everyone is "out" in the same way; we protect our own.
4. The "Leave No Trace" Spirit
We are stewards of the land. We respect the "Leave No Trace" principle in two ways:
* Environmentally: All trash, recycling, and cigarette butts must go in designated bins.
* Energetically: Be mindful of the "vibe" you leave behind. Avoid unnecessary conflict and practice de-escalation. We are here to recharge, not to drain each other.
5. Personal Responsibility & Liability
While AQC carries insurance and works hard to create a safe environment, you are ultimately responsible for your own health and safety.
* Assumption of Risk: Outdoor activities (swimming, hiking, bonfires) carry inherent risks.
* Liability Release: By attending, you waive the right to hold AQC, its directors, or volunteers liable for personal injury, illness, or loss of property.
